I've got a Toshiba Satellite L35-s2151 laptop that is @ 1 1/2 years old and I am wondering if I can upgrade the cpu. It has a Celeron M 420 1.6Ghz cpu with 479 socket. I can't find any info on the web. The only thing on the Toshiba website is the userguide which is of no help.
The machine runs fine, but the more advanced my charting software gets, the slower the machine becomes (daytrading charting software).
I upgraded the RAM to 2GB shortly after buying the machine. Also, the hard drive is only 60GB. I'm thinking of putting a larger one in because I keep getting to the point where I'm filling up this one.
Is there anything else I can do to make this machine run better or is it time to upgrade to a newer Core 2 Duo machine and sell this on on eBay?
You can ostensibly use any Core or Core Duo (Yonah) processor in that laptop. . . as far as dropping in a Core2 (Merom), a cursory search brings no results for the L35. If you are game to try a merom, make sure it is a first gen 667 FSB model. . .
Thanks for the reply. I looked on newegg and didn't see any of those processors (or I just missed it). Can you send me a link to a similar cpu you are referring to? Thanks so much...EWB
Actually, if that model number is correct, its a Core Duo, not a Core 2 Duo, and it would have worked.
I want to make sure to reiterate that a Core2 is not, in no way, guaranteed to work (but it could). Its not a gamble I would take (unless I get the proc for free).
