Are Memorex DVD Rs good quality?

The suppliers around here only carry Memorex, Sony and Verbatim DVDR media, but Verbatim and Sony are a lot more expensive than the Memorex stuff. I like Memorex CDs, but I don't know how their DVD media is. I think that somebody told me that their DVD-R is good quality, but the DVD+R is trash. So, what's the real deal?

Something to think about is the issue of compatibility. Some makes and models of DVD burners will work well with Memorex media, such as Plextor or Lite-On. But a typical NEC burner, for example, might not work well with this media, and might require something that is of higher quality.

Note: Many problems with media from different manufacturers can be resolved with a firmware update for the burner in question.

I'm personally using the 4X DVD+R Memorex RICOHJPN media in combination with my Plextor burner. I've gone through about 60 disks thus far, without a single coaster, or any other kind of problems. I've used them for audio, data, and backing up DVD movies. They play great in my Philips DVD/VHS combo unit ... no jitter, audio issues, or compatibility problems.

I've had similar results in the past with Memorex CD-R media. I can't recall the last time I had a coaster, and over the years, I guess I've burned at least a couple of hundred disks of this type ... but again, with a Plextor product, and whatever current release of Nero was available.

The problem with Memorex media is they use different suppliers. So you aren't always guaranteed to get the same discs. If you can get Ricoh media though it is usually decent media although it can vary from batch to batch.
Check <A HREF="http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdmedia" target="_new">here</A> for a searchable database for different types of media.

Memorex is OK, but Fuji is much Better IMO, but if Memorex is the cheapest available to you, go with it, I haven't had a failed burn to a Memorex DVD-R disk yet.
