I do video editing, and I am thinking of setting up a RAID 0 setup. I am looking at 2 Western Digital 120 GB SATA drives, and my Western Digital 80 GB as backup. I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe board with onboard SATA. How would I go about setting this up? Right now, I have SATA disabled, so I know I have to enable the jumper on the motherboard. Also, I have two SATA ports, do I connect each drive to its own port? Also, how to I go about installing Windows on the new drives? Do I just connect them, and boot off the XP cd, and install? I have heard of issues with SATA drives and XP. Is this true?

I just started the process of the same thing.

Just bought a 120GB WD SATA,gonna get a second.I also have a WD 80GB PATA. You will need to download the SATA driver to a floppy disk to install with Windows. Yes each drive goes on it own port, SATA cables are singles.

Pressing F6 during windows setup, Install floppy into drive, finish windows install.

you will also need to setup the Raid Array in the serial ATA bios before you install windows if Going Raid 0 I believe.

When the SATA controller is enabled there should be a screen that comes up, it will tell you how to access the SATA conroller BIOS. You can downoad the SATA drivers from your board manufacturers web site, although they are prolly on you boards installation CD anyway.

Ok. I have a question. I am looking at the WD 120 SATA, but I am unable to see the connections. I have 2 Serial ATA data cables, but do I need a power converter from 4 pin to SATA power. From the looks of the pictures, I don't need it. It shows that it uses the standard 4 pin power connector.

It has both a SATA plug and a standard molex connector. The only drives you need a converter for are the Seagate and the raptor ones.
