I keep seeing thses timings appear like they are magical or something... can someone break down this option for me... why does it work? why is it good? will it work for me?

I will be running 512MB of Corsair XMS PC2700 ram on an unlocked Barton 2500+ in an ABIT NF7-S...

They aren´t really magical. A high FSB will give much more performance than running on low timings. The truth is that if you´re able to run at very low timings, you´ll be able to raise the FSB much more, and still have a stable system. That is if it´s not your CPU that´s holding you back. You should raise the timings, to be able to run on a higher FSB. High FSB is performance, beeing able to run on low timings just mean that you havn´t overclocked the RAM enough. ;o)

I used to run at 2-3-2-5, now I´m at 2.5-3-2-5, and I can run at 22MHz more on the FSB!

Having "...low timings just mean that you havn´t overclocked the RAM enough."

Awesome quote...

AFAIK is a peculiarity of the NF7 mobo's. It seems everyone who benches ends up with 2-2-2-11 giving better results. Only way to know for sure if it's the same for you is to do benchies and see.

Here's a previous thread on how ram works <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=153637#153637" target="_new">http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=153637#153637</A>
