Awhile back I got a P4 3.0Ghz and an D865GBF from Intel. The processor only supports 400Mhz FSB, but the mobo supports 800mhz.

Anyway, currently I have 512MB and a 256MB of PC2100 (DDR266). I'd like to move up to DDR400, but have heard I should look for the right timings. What would be the best?!

I don't really want OCZ memory, but theirs says 2-2-3-6 1T. The PMI memory I was looking at says CAS Latency: 2-3-2-6.

I was looking on svc.com at the memory because I've bought from them before. If anyone can tell me what the faster RAM would be, or if they want to look at svc's site and let me know if there is one faster there it would be most appreciated.

I plan on buying two 512MB sticks.

First thing is, there are no 3GHz processors with 400MHz FSB.

Okay then I got it backward. :) Motherboard supports 400Mhz and Processor supports 800Mhz. I knew it was one of them. I just need to know the best timing numbers I should get in a PC3200 pair.

your motherboard and your processor both support an 800mhz fsb. maybe your motherboard is limiting the fsb speed because of your ram.

the tightest timings i could find from a retailer Mushkin 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 "222 Special" Dual Pack for $250 at newegg. i am currently running that ram at 2-2-2-5 on an epox 4pca3+ mobo. probably be a good idea to check out the mushkin and intel websites to see if the ram/mobo combination has been tested to work together.

No the motherboard only supports up to 400Mhz FSB if you read Intel's website: http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/bf/index.htm?iid=ipp_browse+motherbd_d865gbf&

Wait a minute. Why is this an argument over that?! I just wanted to know the fastest memory timings I can buy?! I've read articles on here and in Maximum PC, but they really don't explain what timings are better than others. They discuss things, but not in the simplest of terms.

Your motherboard supports 400, 533 and 800Mhz FSB's. Why do you want really fast timmings? I dont think you are gonna see a whole lot of difference between 2-3-2-6 and 2-2-2-6. If your have a 800Mhz FSB P4 try overclocking a wee bit, that will give you a bigger performance boost.

Yeah that was my original question kind of. I didn't know how to tell what timings were the better ones and which I should have stayed away from.

If you say my mobo supports 400/533/800mhz then why does it not specify that on Intel's website?! It says 400mhz. Besides, isn't 800Mhz RDRAM?! I don't have any RDRAM slots inside.
