I currently have about $5500 to spend on a office server for about 20 client computers. I want it to have exchange and aw ebserver on it, my question is should i buy dell or make it myself?

I would just make a win server 2003 small business edition myself.

With that much money, I'd go ahead and buy a Dell, we use them at the University research facilities with 100's of clients where I work (Plasma Physics) and they perform very well. I personally like Dell's servers, some people hate how they are taken apart, but I personally think the way they are designed is intuitive.

5500 isn't alot for a server, the software and client licenses cost alot.

Then backup solution costs, etc.

$5500.00 will get you a nice Poweredge 2850 with 4Gigs of Ram loaded with Windows Server 2003 SBE.
