I have 3 issues with my desktop and I hope they are all related.

1. If you select an icon and then select another icon, the first icon stays
selected. You can keeping selecting icons, but all proevious ones will stay
selected until you click on them and deselect.

2. When you open another window, for example, in System Properties you open
Device manager, the Device Manager window opens behind the Systems Properties
window.

3. When an item is selected from the taskbar, it doesn't open. You must
use 'right-click' and Restore for the window to open.

Any help in clearing these issues up would be appreciated.

These seem to be related, to me at least. I'd suspect that some sort of
tweaking has done this. Have you added any tweaking programs recently? Or,
have you adjusted settings on your Desktop or with your Mouse Properties. (I
ask this because it reminds me of a description of StickyKeys that I once
read).

This is actually on my mother's system. She wouldn't intentionally change
any settings, but she could have done something and not know it.

Do you have another keyboard you can try? It sounds suspiciously like a
Ctrl key is sticking.
