Couple of years ago I bought a Velodyne from Circuitcity, which works fine, at least for musc. At the time doing research, found that the only difference between the Circuitcity Velodyne and those sold at higher end audio stores was the enclosure, i.e., the guts were the same. Not sure if this is still the case but you could look into it.

Take a look at one of these on ebay from harmanaudio, can be had with shipping for under 250, or maybe get 2! Or you can make your own homebrew sub with a component amp and a 15" car sub driver.

See the second 10" Driver under the Sub it's got Class D Power 250 Watts

Try to avoid Klipsch. There's been a lot of reports of a lack of reliablity from
them the past few years.

What size room? For movies or music or games?
