Dual-channel memory

Hello,
I am about to buy a new pc, with a gigabyte GA-7N400L-1 mobo(and athlon xp 2600+ barton). It supports dual-channel memory and has 4slots. So i am between buying a 512mb valueram kingston pc3200 or 2x256mb valueram kingston pc3200 again. Which one do you suggest, which slots should I use in case i buy 2x256 and what's the bonus of dual-channel over single channel?
