I've notice a few puma-based notebooks out there. 2 from hp and a couple from toshiba. Seems like none of them come w/ HDMI-out, unless, in a few cases, you opt for a discrete video card, such as in HP's new 15 incher. My understanding is that the Radeon 3200 integrated solution is fully capable of HD-decoding, etc in hardware. So, why is it that no one has HDMI-out on these things? Do they just want to force me to buy a discrete card for this? Is it unusual to want HDMI-out on a notebook?
I'm waiting for a 14" puma=based job w/ hdmi-out on integrated video, and wireless -n. Is that asking too much? Maybe ASUS will do it...
You may need to use an adapter like a DVI to HDMI. Im not sure if audio is fully supported via HDMI. That will depend alot of the Video card. As far as I know the PC ATI 3XXX cards will do audio, but who knows about a laptop video card.
a discrete nvidia 8400gs does do video and audio via hdmi, as I use it for this often, hdmi from notebook to tv for netflix movies online. As the new ati cards (even the integrated solution) is more capable than the 8400gs for HD decoding, overall power, etc., I can't see why there is no HDMI out.
I've heard of the DVI/HDMI adapter, but I would think that this solution would not carry the audio signal. does the adapter allow laptop to channel audio thru the dvi out??? That would be pretty slick...
As far as I know it does. ATI ships all their PC video cards with an adapter. I cant see why they wouldnt include an HDMI port, but in a laptop your looking at a space limited configuration already. Far easier to throw a $2 adapter in the box.
I use an adapter to output video from my 8800 GTX, but have to rely on RCA cables to handle my sound when I hook my PC up to my 47" LCD TV as the 8800 GTX doesnt handle audio.
