My plextor PX-708A handles scuffed discs better than my liteon 52327S.

Get a disc polisher - something like the <A HREF="http://www.digitalinnovations.com/" target="_new">Skip Doctor</A>. As a general rule, if you are having trouble reading a disc hold it up to a bright light. If you can see pinhole lights through the disc, the data layer is damaged and data is lost forever, but if not then you should be able to polish out any scratches. You should, of course, back up any data from a disc you needed to polish.
