I have an D-link NIC model DFE-538TX and there's a small cable that comes with it. Can someone tell me what it's for? I can still play my games and surf the net without it. I don't know what the name of that wire is. But I just want to know what it's for and if it could boost my internet connection speed?
Oh just looked in another manual. I think it's called WOL cable, not sure.

Like the last guy said. If you wanted your computer to turn on whenever it got a signal from the network, you'd connect that cable to the WOL header on the motherboard and turn on WOL in BIOS.

very usefull in corporate environments. say you have new virus deffinitions or a critical patch to roll out, instead of leaving it up to the users to leave their computers on or walking around and turning every computer on, you can just use magic packet to turn on all the computers. of course that doesnt work if they turn the computers off at the power strip. another one is, say your at work and you need to get a file off your computer at home but its off, just config your firewall to pass the correct port and your in.
