Best 17" CRT Monitor? Without a doubt any monitor made by Sony with the 17" Sony Trinitron CRT. Almost Totally Flat, great colour response and fast refresh. They can be a little hard to find now (Sony stopped manufacture of the 17" Trinitron Tubes in 2002) but there should still be plenty around.
Failing that Philips monitors are good (look for ones with the word 'shadowmask' in the tech description - you don't need to know what it means, you just need to know you've got it).
The Dell 17" CRT it also suprisingly good.
