Should I turn my computer off after every time I use it?

I only use if for home use but I turn it off every time I use it and then I re-open it again the next time I use it? Is it safe to leave it on and does it cost much in electricity?

Leaving the computer ON or OFF depends on individual, IMO.

For me, I leave it ON if I have scheduled jobs to do, like backup & weekly scan. However, I would set to power down the HD after 2 hours of no activity in order to prolong the drive's life span as well as saving energy.

If your computer's idle temperature as well as the room temperature are quite high, I would recommend you to turn it OFF after every use.

This. And there is also a sleep function which will temporaily shut down your pc so you can resume later without having to wait for it to boot up.
