At least I think windows explorer is a driver, if not sorry. My computer is going slower and slower and both Thunderbird and Firefox hang regularly. Then I get a screen message to say Windows Explorer is not reacting. The damn thing seems to be broken. What do I do, preferably without losing all my settings etc. Cheers from overhot southern France.

Done the virus scan both with McAfee and another programme, all say all clear. Forgive the total ignorance but what do I do for a hard drive test? Is there software I need like Avonquest's Fixit? Cheers

Oh dear, OK DOS is an old operating system in existence before Windows.... am I right? But my system is Windows 7. What is HIRENS? Sorry I am not a technical person just someone with a laptop that keeps sending out Windows explorer has stopped responding. Cheers

Hi :)

No Dos is the black screens with white writing you see BEFORE you get into Windows 7...

Considering your lack of knowledge, I would take it to a local laptop repair shop for testing, it should only cost around a half hours labour to find your problem... then you can decide what to do...

All the best Brett :)
