Difference between ECC and Non-ECC

Last response: in Memory

What's the difference between ECC and Non-ECC memory? Does one run faster than the other? Is one better than the other? Is it that one is better suited for gaming as opposed to general use? I see it lot when reading about memory. Just trying to stimulate the cranium. Thanks.

ECC is for servers where data accuracy is of utmost importance. There is a performance penalty with ECC. Gamers want to use non-ECC due to that.
