I keep my speakers plugged into my onboard sound for music (I have decent stereo in the living room so rarely use the computer for this) and use headphones in my soundblaster live for gaming (keeps voice chats cleaner). I want to upgrade my soundcard and am thinking about the Hercules Fortissimo 3 (or maybe the SB Audigy 2). If I do go for the Fortissimo I'll probably leave the SB live in and plug my speakers into it. Am I likely to get driver conflicts because of this? Will I be slowing my system down at all by leaving the old SB in, even if it's not the default card?

Thanks!

Having two or more soundcards in one system is generally a bad idea to be honest. You're lucky to have what you have there working in the first place :)

My best tip would be to get a soundcard with a digital connection for speakers and use the analog connections for the headphones. This won't allow you to use them both at the same time, but a simple switch in settings for the soundcard is all that's needed to switch between the two.
