If I Hibernate or power off and then press the button to bring the system
back up many times the monitor will not come on line.

That is the system is obviously running but the monitor is still blank.

So I press the power button again to hibernate and then press it to bring
the system up it may turn the monitor on this time.

If it doesn't I repeat.

Sometimes the monitor comes up the first time - sometimes I need to try 3 or
4 times.

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

Thanks

Likely an issue caused by the video card drivers, not signaling the
monitor to come back on. See if it is a known issue at the vid card
manufacturers web site or if updated drivers will correct it.
