I have never bought a laptop before, so I don't know what to look for. No brand preference.
1 What is your budget?
$1000CDN, preferably as cheap as possible
2 What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
15.4" is fine.
3 What screen resolution do you want?
1280x800/1024?
4 Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Desktop replacement.
5 How much battery life do you need?
It'll be plugged in most of the time.
6 Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games.
Warsow - Good framerate
7 What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop?
Playing music (external speakers), HD video (xvid), MAME.
8 How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?
There is no need for a large HDD, even a solid state drive would work just fine. I suppose the more space, the merrier.
10 How long do you want to keep your laptop?
As long as it still boots up
11 If you would like to mention some other things about purchasing your ideal laptop, post them.
S-Video output or similar would be great to have.
Seems like a good price. I've heard some bad things about Acer's quality, but don't for sure. I like anyone, have my biases. I tend to look at Dell, HP, and ASUS, though Dell less these days as they tend to be a little on the pricey side and their warranties are a little overpriced. That being said, mine is a Dell XPS M1330...
I'm in the process of recommending a new 15" HP to a friend. Pavilion dv5z. If u configure w/ turion ultra processor and discrete video, good warrenty, wireless n, etc. looking at about $950. That discrete video isn't that great actually, but I guess the amd puma platform combines the power of the discrete and integrated video, so maybe good, not sure. Gives u you hdmi out, which is nice.
newegg has some good deals too, the gateway m-6851. Thats a faster video card. Not sure how good gateway is though either. Owned by acer i think...
the asus m51ta-x1 and x2 notebooks on newegg look pretty great actually. great video, wireless n, hdmi out, etc. i'd probably go with one of those...
