I have a college student that I have let borrow an old Toshiba laptop. It has Windows XP Professional and a PC slot. I want to know if we can use this slot along with my newer desktop to communicate. I heard about a device that plugs into a vhs slot for that purpose but I got lost trying to find my way through the array of things for sale. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you are trying to do, communicate as in what? Between the computers, on a chat server, voice? Connect to the same network? VHS has nothing to do with this, VHS is this http://www.google.com/images?q=vhs+tape&hl=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbs=isch:1&ei=ma5mTZmiHIO88gbojc2WCw&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CDMQ_AUoAQ. Looking for a network card for the Toshiba? Wirelses card? What exact model is the laptop?
