Does this make sense?

A friend of mine upgraded his ECS K7S5A ver.1.0 board to an ASRock K7S8X ver.3.0. Now take into account that the ECS board will run either PC100, PC133 or PC2100 RAM. Because he was tight on his budget, he gets rid of his 512MB PC2100 and buys 256MB PC2700. Does this actually make sense and does he actually gain in performance? The rest of the components were running synchronous with the ECS mobo.

No, it makes no sense, but if he did a new install of his OS he probably "thinks" it's faster just because his old install was crudded up.

That's probably what he did. Did a clean install after installing the new mobo and he "feels" that it's faster. If people would just listen to me. I'm really not half as retarded as I look.) I've got the same ECS board currently except in the 5.0 version.

Planning on upgrading my board soon. I've got 2 choices. Actually more but I narrowed it down to these 2. The EPOX 8RDA3+ or ASUS A7N8X. Both have DDR400 and both have the nForce 2 with ASUS having the SPP. The EPOX on the other hand has HT and IDE RAID. Other than that the two boards have similar features and the ASUS is 10 €uros more. I can get the EPOX through my company for 89€uro.

Just checked out newegg and the EPOX is actually 17$ more than the ASUS.
You've been recommending the ASUS. Would that be the better deal in the long run?

By the way, do you ever sleep?

I'd probably go with the Abit NF7-S version 2.0. All the normal sites carry the 2.0 version as the 1.x has been out of production a long time.

I've been looking at that one also. It's going for 95€uro. I'll keep it under consideration when I decide to buy. I'll do more research on it.

ThanX Crash.
