Since I read so many bad things about SanDisk, I got a Lexar SD card for my
T|E. Backup Buddy came highly recommended, especially since the latest
version is supposed to be able to backup the system from the SD.
Instead, I got a fatal crash, etc., and wound up doing a hard reset. Backup
Buddy not only wouldn't work, but the Lexar card claims to be "read only"
(no, the tab is in the right position, but thanks for checking) and I can do
nothing about it. Not even format it.
Is there a way around this, to fool the machine into letting me format it so
it is not "read only" again?
Here's the bigger news: I don't need Backup Buddy, really. (Sure, if it
works, it would be great to restore in the field. But I suspect that it
caused my fatal problems in the first place, since it was the last
application that I was using when it all went down.) When I did the Hot
Sync, *everything* came back, including third party applications like VisKey
and some freeware! Hey, I heard in more than one place that it won't happen!
I'm the lucky one! Wow, a complete data disaster crash and full system
restore in five minutes.
I'm using Palm OS 5.2.1, and Palm Desktop 4.1.2.
But I still have the question, if it was a bad card or Backup Buddy that
caused the problems.

BackupBuddyVFS has been around for a long time and sold many copies. It
certainly gives me no trouble on my Zire 71, also Palm OS 5.2.1. Its
good to look at the last thing you did as the source of a problem. I
would however not be in a hurry to blame it without proof. With
problems like this you need to find the cause or the problem may come back.

Exchange the card, it's defective.

I use BBVFS with my T3 OS 5.2.1 with no problems.
Some SD Cards go bad, they have electronics in them. Take it back to
where you bought it and get it replaced.
-=OR=- If you have a card reader, try to reformat it FAT16 or run
DiskScan on it.

I agree with the other respondants - see if you can get a replacement card.
For what it's worth, I'm using a Lexar Memory Stick in my Sony Clie without
any problems.

I have a Tungsten3 with OS 5.2.1 using a sandisk 64 meg card with
BackupBuddy VFS 2.15.
Zero problems.
I even used the restore function once with a bad download and it worked
perfect.
Whenever I update or install a program, I will backup my palm with BBVFS
2.15, that way, if the newly installed program messes up my palm, I just
restore my T3 back before I had installed the program.
BBVFS 2.15 works fine for me.

I shoulda specified: *what* do I back up? I'm not sure of the file names,
backing up enough info, that sort of thing.

Find your Palm dir, c:\program files\palm, in it should be a directory
that looks like you username, (my username is Jim Anderson, my dir name
is AndersJ) back that up.

I don't have a dir called AndersJ. Just kidding! Thanks for the info.

I know nothing from card readers, but I did take the thing back. After
reformatting the replacement, it seems to be working. (The defective one
refused to even be reformatted...must have been defective, like people are
saying.)
What do you think, is it a good practice to format every new card before
using it?
