Well i have that exact LG monitor (1980Q) and i have to say it is incredible! The image quality is superb and oh so sharp! I liked it so much that i overcleaned it and ended up leaving streaks on it 
but thats not a problem as i only notice the marks during dark areas in games. Anyway i highly recommend this monitor if you want top quality!
Yes its excellent for gaming with its 8ms response time and of course its image quality. Gaming is pretty much all i do and the LG hasnt let me down so far
