medium, not that bothered. Would like a reasonably good GPU tho

mainly uni work really and surfing the internet. Would like to use it in some casual la parties too maybe, to partner my desktop

The Gemstone is pretty good way to get into a GF8600M (GS though) for less than £600 exc VAT. Otherwise you're into lower end GPUs like the HD3470 or GF8400 or else worse still integrated.
If you're able to swing 600 before / 700 after VAT then the ASUS G1S is also a good option.
The DELL XPS M1530 is ok as well if you prefer that, it's pretty straightforward, but the CPU is a little weaker, the Studio 15 is OK, but would let you upgrade the CPU but give you a weaker HD3470 GPU.
ACER is ok quality, a friend has a very similar laptop, and it works well for him.
