Basically, I am going to Korea in a month and a half and I will be there for a year. I am looking for a decent rig that will allow me to game reliably on a budget. I found this deal and have been searching it on the web for more information about the computer but I would like to know what you guys think. Are the specs good enough for what I'm looking for? And what about gateway in general, is it reliable?
1_What is your budget? no more than $1000 but really looking more around $800
2_What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? 15in screen
3_What screen resolution resolution do you want? not so important as the performance and reliability
4_Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? this will be my main computer for at least a year
5_How much battery life do you need? whatever the usual is, it will be plugged in virtually all the time so this is not so important
6_Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I want something that will be able to run games like warhammer online, diablo 3, and starcraft 2. it doesn't have to be on super high settings, I would just like to be able to play them say on medium with good performance, if it is even possible on this budget. hopefully it will be able to handle games for a couple years obviously not on the highest settings but still able to run them
7_What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? surfing the web, playing music, watching movies, Etc.) basically the main thing for this computer will be games, after that chatting online/surfing the web
8_How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?the minimum these days is more than enough
9_If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post the links to them.
really from bestbuy.com or tigerdirect.com if possible, as tigerdirect has their distribution center/ outlet store near my house. of course if something really good can be found elsewhere i am definitely open to other places
10_How long do you want to keep your laptop? a couple years
11_If you would like to mention some other things about purchasing your ideal laptop, post them.
looking to buy it asap
12_Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons. i have no real brand preference, hopefully one with good support/ reliable products
check out a dell studio 15. You can get a laptop with a lot better graphics (ati 256mb) card for about the same money. Intel shared graphics won't cut it in the long run. I also prefer a core 2 or an amd to the pentium. You get better performance and battery time.
