We take a look at two portable MP3 players: one from SanDisk, which lets you view pictures in a clear 1.7" screen (we kid you not) and another from Transcend that purports to be the iPod Shuffle beater.
Well that figures... bought a Sandisk 512mb mp3 player three years back during a Black Friday sale, and it definitely has a loud hissing problem at low volume.
The Sandisk e260 seems promising though from some buyers reviews. You get that black iPod nano look everyone likes, with a more normal sized color display. Holds 4GB for ~$150 on a good day, with a slot to use an SD flash card for further expansion. Includes the usual FM tuner and photo viewing and 15-20 hour battery life as well.
At the same price as the 1gb iPod Nano, the e260 makes much more sense...
I got a T.sonic 310 for Christmas and I am very impressed. It has its limitations (as you mentioned) but it's perfect for what I want (listening to French language lessons). It's tiny, and I love the standard USB connector (no microscopic "docking station" ).
