512mb vs 1gb module

I am purchasing an ASUS K8V Deluxe with an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU. When I was reviewing other sites about RAM modules, some indicated that 2 512Mb modules slowed the system down when contrasted with using 1 - 1gb RAM module. Before I purchase memory, I would like this issued clarified, if possible.

I dont know if it does indeed slow it down but since this cpu/mobo aint using dual channel you wont benefit from 2 stick so youd be better of with 1 stick of 1 gig so you have more empty slots when you feel like upgrading.
