for all you audiophiles out there

This isn't exactly a sound card question. But I figure those who frequent this forum are generally more knowledgable about sound than me, and the routing thereof, thus my question:

Is there any way, using cables and any other gadget I could pander, to rout the sound from my TV to my computer? I ask this because my TV is right next to my computer, but when my roomate hits the sack I turn off the TV out of courtesy. Is there any way I could get the sound through my computer, to listen to on headphones (then I could watch TV without the fear of waking my slumbering friend from it's noise).

well i'm sure my ignorance shows, but what is an HT reciever? i'm using a leapfrog system to beam cable from downstairs to my upstairs, is there anyway to rig that to my needs?

What I was gonna say is first see if your TV has two AUX outputs on da back, one white and one red socket. If it does then simply get a cable which has 2 RCA -> 3.5mm jack. The RCA Plugs go into your TV (make sure these plugs are OUTPUT and not INPUT, some people commonly think that the RCA plugs on the fron with the video are output when they are INPUT. Usually the OUPUT RCA plugs are located at the back of the TV set. If your TV doesnt have fancy RCA plugs then a Headphone socket will be fine, just instead of a 2 RCA -> 3.5mm choose a 3.5mm -> 3.5mm (headphone jacks at both ends). I choose RCA simply because of the higher audio quality and amplitude. Also you dont need to muck around with the TV volume, you can turn the TV volume all the way down and RCA Output is unaffected.

The other headphone plug goes into the Line in Socket of your Soundcard (usually blue) Now all you do is simply open up Volume Control and ensure that Line In has not been muted. Turn Line in up to max, plug headphones into your PC and now you can enjoy the PC and TV Audio!
