Despite what both of you had suggested I chose the Compal.
I was browsing youtube and found a view play vids of the 8600M in action and was impressed to the point that I can actually play crysis on low. And with a few tweaks maybe even medium at above 20FPS (AA is the problem with crysis)
It also appealed to me because of the simple look. Looks like the modest man who is actually a superhero kinda notebook. Thumbscanner is something I'll never use. Another bonus was the fact that I could use XP and get better framerates in the occasional game.
The ASUS may have a better processor but im sure its just the same thing, a little clocking configuration can change that. And if Open BOX means someone bought it and returned it, then wont that mean there was something wrong with it? Not to mention plans don't cover open box products. I'll revive the topic and post some framerates when i recieve the laptop and format XP onto the blessed thing.
It may be possible to upgrade the GPU card a year from now since people seem to think the G84 is utter crud
