I have the same HD, and yes, that is normal. Don't worry about it, I have a 80gig WD and that's hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns on my fingers (no joke). I do recommend to put a fan on it. That drops the temp all the way down to 29-31 C. It doesn't have to be a high speed fan, I'm using a 80mm fan at 1500 RPM to get those temps.

mount a BIG 80mm fan somewhere near it (tape it to the frame), the HD will serve you mUcH mUCh longeeeeer.

PS: even better mount HD in the CD rom bay, open the lead and let the air tha PS sucking out flow by it.

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

Heck yea, that's the way I used last year to cool my WD800JB, except I slapped on an 80mm intake fan in two bay covers. I'll post some shots soon.

I have been looking for hard drive coolers, and I was really impressed by the Zalman ZM-2HC2 heatpipe. Will that be effective enough to cool my drive to reasonable temperatures?
