I'm looking to buy a new monitor (preferably 19'') as all other ppl I wouldn't mind if it's cheap 8P

I'm primarely gonna use it for DTP/GFX (I'm an illustrator) but I like to do a bit of gaming too (fast pased FPS mainly) I need a balanced monitor but it's more imortent that it renders color/black well. Fast refresh as well would be nice but if I cant have both without paying a bundle, I would chose image quality over speed...

Any thoughts?

for better black and whites, look at contrast ratio specs. the higher the ratio the better, 1600:1 > 300:1

Most of the monitors today have the "cheap and fast" TN panels.... better for gamers who care more about speed than other characteristics. You will want to avoid those as color fidelity and contrast are less.

Look for a monitor with either a MVA, PVA or S-IPS panel. My 2 favorite brands are NEC and Samsung. The Samsung 940T gets most excellent reviews from buyers at Newegg.com.

If you are worried about color accuracy then make sure whatever you do you get an S-IPS panel in whatever monitor you get.

S-IPS has by far the best color reproduction and blacks no matter what its contrast may be.

The following are NEC's that are reasonably priced with an S-IPS panel.

LCD1970NX
LCD1990FX
LCD2070NX
