Newbie Deity question

I have a laptop with a USB ADSL connection. Can I run an Empire server
from my laptop and practice blitzes using WinAce from the same
machine?

If so do I use the IP address of the USB connection when setting up
the server?

Probably stupid questions as I am technically illiterate.

Hi Gary

If you are going to run the empire server on Windows machine, just use
the localhost (127.0.0.1) for the IP hostname and address, see
instructions in the build.conf file for the NT build. You can
probably use the USB network IP, but it is not necessary and it works
using localhost for both local and remote access to the server.

When connecting with WinACE using the same machine use localhost and
port number. The port number is set in the build.conf and compiled
into the program.

Assuming you are using the precompiled binaries that I posted to
empcontrib, you need to use localhost and 6665.

A few notes, anything you want to change in build.conf requires a
recompile of the emp_server. You can change stuff in the econfig
without recompiling. It is possible to reconfigure the econfig file
so you can do the updates on demand which is useful when play learning
on a local server. You do not need to wait 10 minutes between updates
and when necesary can have longer time between updates.
