Which drive to buy? Anyone have any experience with the Sony and how reliable is it copying movies and playing these set-top? If there are many bugs with the DL then I may go with the Plextor as the prices are about the same.\

Thx! Dan

the sony dual layer is a ODM by Lite-On
I would wait a while for Lite-On release their dual layer burner
then decide which way to go....

Most movies you buy on DVD are dual-layer, so using a Dual-Layer recorder will likely mean you won't have to "shrink" your movies if you want to make backup copies.

Yep, definitely worthwile if dvd video backup is the goal. I can live with shrinking for the time being though.

I'm personally waiting for the standard to firm up a bit and for the drives and media to come down. No immediate compelling reason for me yet, although I wouldn't turn away a free piece of hardware like some people get.
