TM 2K4 Update

Archived from groups: rec.games.empire (More info?)

It's time for our first update of Twisted Mind 2K4. The new nick name for
this game is Blind Date Empire. Why? Well one of the special setups for this
game was the fact that everybody shared a start island with one other person.
Normally, this makes for some early sector exchanges and quick exits for 1/2
the players.
But not in Twisted Mind. Some crazy fool got into the code and disabled
the "declare" command. But not before he had every country at war with
everybody else EXCEPT for those people sharing islands. They were allied.
The game started with 12 players on six islands. All 12 players broke on
time. They all complained about the lack of resources. Basically, there
was just enough to build a couple of frigates every update. But off the
horizon they found out there were dozens of 3 sector islands with plenty of
minerals (but no oil).
The first week of the game, updates came at every 12 hours. Now we are
at 48 hour updates. It has been reported that some of the more senior
players are now starting to regrow some of their hair.
Early in the game, as players expanded, they realized that the 2K4 mods
had one major impact. They all had huge positive cash deltas. Ships hit the
water faster than Mr. Ed hits the bottle. Want adds for frigate captains
were offerng a 30% signing bonus, stock options, and their choice of a cabin
boy or girl. (Adds for cabin boys and girls were also plenitful.)
Two weaker alliances were soon realized. Tiki/Temekula and MunchMunch/
Iceland were whittled down quickly by land hungry opportunists. In keeping
up with the Jonses, FodderLLC looked at his ally's (SeaLab) portfolio and
found the entire institution underfunded, undertrained, and most importantly
understaffed. With great regret, he moved in with a hostile takeover before
off shore interests could take full advantage of the situation.
We are now hitting the stage of the game where units and planes are
starting to enter play. And of course, budgets are now back in the red.
This is good news for the traditional empire players who cannot stand the
thought of somebody else having money.
Of course the 2K4 mods skew the power report a lot. So take it with
a grain of salt (or pint of bitters).

The fact that I have been on top of the power chart since the 2nd or 3rd
update indicates that something is terribly wrong with your game...

Nah, games fine. You're skewing the power chart with ship tonnage, and the
cm's you're churning out to make them. This has been a friendly message
from a disgruntled person mired in 2nd place :-)
