Need a New Laptop - Simplified!

1) What is your budget?
£500 Max

2) What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
15.4-17inch.

3) What screen resolution do you want?
No idea about this one, so long as it works!

4) Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Desktop replacement

5) How much battery life do you need?
Doesn't matter, it'll be plugged in 24/7

6) Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I will be playing games like Sims 2 and probably the new one to be released in Feb 09 so would like a good graphics card to enable me to play on the highest settings possible.

7) What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, surfing the web, playing music, watching movies, Etc.)
I put alot of photos on the comp and my DP crowds it with music and we occasionally watch films on it, I also spend alot of time online.

8) How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?
Anything decent within my budget.

10) How long do you want to keep your laptop?
I want the laptop to last a good few years and still be able to cope with new games ect.

11) If you would like to mention some other things about purchasing your ideal laptop, post them.
I just want to improve on my current one; a Compaq R4000 (bought in 2005) which has AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 1.78 GHz and 1GB RAM.

12) Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
My prefered brands are Compaq or HP, I'm not too keen on Toshibas or Acer only because I've heard bad things about them (but I can be persuaded otherwise though). I know there's a Toshiba and an Acer in the links I posted but only because thier specs seem much better. Am I just paying for the brand with a HP?!
