Hi there,

I'd like to know if there is a technical possibility for a carrier to block IM applications when using their mobile Internet services from my smartphone. Do IM applications use specific ports that could easily be blocked? I doubt they have the right to check the data that goes through their servers to check for IM.

The reasons I'm asking this is because I'm looking for a new data plan in Germany, but I've seen at least two mobile carriers stating (in the footnotes obviously :D ) that use of IM services is not allowed. I've been told however that quite a few people use them without ever getting a warning or something like that.

Thank you very much for your time.
