My Toshiba laptop has an Agere "Toshiba software modem" which works fine.
Once in a while (rarely), the modem seems to get confused and thinks it is
not connected. This is solved by rebooting my XP Home.
Is there a way to reset/unload and reload the software modem without
rebooting the laptop? The modem driver is listed as
c:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\AGRSM.sys
Thanks.

You can try by removing it from Device Manager and then re-do a "scan" for
new devices.
