4 month HP L2000 (AMD ML-37, 1GB ram) notebook shuts-off when I run on AC with battery pack installed. If I remove the battery pack, it shuts-off less frequently. What could cause this? I am using Windows XP in the home/office power mode. Most of the time this notebook sits on a flat table with a glass top. HP sent me a box and RMA but I am reluctant to send it back since they have poor track record solving this problem on other notebooks. If I send it back should I remove the HD? It is still new - maybe i should just ask for my money back.

Well I did not send my laptop back. Instead, I substituted a friends 6 cell battery he uses for his own L2000. When I ran my L2000 using the battery both AC/DC I had no problems. It seems to me the laptop industry is having a crisis with battery performance and technolgy. I may send my 12 cell battery back to HP now for replacement.
