Hi everyone,

i'm just sick and tired of starting cmd from start -> run and see the prompt
opens on C:\Documents and Settings\profile_name.

I just would like to change the default location of the prompt; i don't want
to click on any shortcut, just start -> run -> cmd

Maybe it's easy to say but not to do it.... anyone?

In the Registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command
Processor insert a new String value
AutoRun
and add
cd C:\
here.

Try this...

Right click the Desktop | New | Shortcut |
Paste this in the location box:

%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

Click Next | Click Finish |

Right click the new cmd.exe shortcut | Properties |
In the Start in box replace %windir% with C:\ |
Apply | OK

Double click the new shortcut and you should see...

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

C:\>

You can also change the Start in for the cmd shortcut located under
Accessories on the Start Menu.
