Hi,

I have the above DVD Rom drive. I have a DVD that 2 of my friends can read ok, it's a game.

I can explore the DVD after a long wait but when I double click the .exe file, it says the file is "..not a valid Win32 application". Sometimes when I put the DVD in I can't even explore it, I just get "F:\ is not a valid Win32 application"

Somtimes, I can't even get that far, windows just says 'Please insert disk" or "Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with windows"

The DVD is a 4X DVD-R, which my reader should support.

The DVD drive is a good 5 years old now. I did put a cleaning CD in there but to no avail. Would a flash help, would this just be dirt or is the DVD fit for the bin?

Thanks for any help,

Ape

It's worth trying newer firmware before you junk it.

I created a bootdisk * added the files needed to flash the DVD ROM drive. On boot up I get the following in a DOS window, I entered nothing, it does it all itself:

A:\>update
A:\>vup rel426.hex
<Flash_ROM Version Vp> Ver 0.87
<Promary>
0: (Master) Not Atapi Device
1: (Slave) SHADOW
<Secondary>

Then it just sits there. Looks like it hasn't finished & there is something wrong, though I really have no idea. Would someone advise me please?

Using Nero InfoTool, it lists my system ASPI installation as corrupted. Is this relevant to my DVD ROM drive problem & can it be fixed?

Thanks for any help,

My Plextor flashes within Windows so I'm not really sure... It sounds like the flashing software isn't running correctly.

You could try reinstalling the ASPI layer: <A HREF="http://hijacker.rpc1.org/discinfo/aspi32v4.60.zip" target="_new">http://hijacker.rpc1.org/discinfo/aspi32v4.60.zip</A>
