i have a dell inspiron that doesnt post. i tried to dell troubleshooting procedure. the whole fn and power button. the buttons come on then off<3 at top> then hard drive light bllinks once. thats it. screen doesnt blink or anything. the system doesnt shut down. it stays on. fans running and all. i removed the ram and all components. then fn/power. it then blinks a error for the ram missing. i tried a old lcd i had. no go on it. anyone have any ideas? system board? processor? im stumped.

Register or log in to remove.

Replace the RAM so that it doesn't give you the RAM error and then boot it up. Try using an external monitor.

i did. and also tried a old crt monitor i had laying around. same deal. the hd light blinks a time or two when i hit the power button. also, the only way i can get the three lights beside the power button to light up is if i hit fn then power. there is no code then. they just light up for about 2 seconds then go dark. the fans keep running on the unit also!

My guess is a bad motherboard. Is the unit new?
