I acquired a new DVD writer, and uninstalled the old Backpack driver.
Now all USB ports have exclamation marks, and there doesn't seem to be
any way to get them back. Removing them does nothing.
USB 2.0 is supposed to be included in XP, but the Backpack
uninstallation obviously broke it. How do I get it back?

See "How to Restore the Operating System to a Previous State in
Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306084). Then contact
the manufacturer of the Backpack device for help.
