My onboard raid controller seems to of gone bad, can I install a pci contoller card and save my raid (non-os) set up?

It seems that every time I reboot my wallet gets smaller. I append: No longer interested in speed, just the mere idea that everything should perform at its full potential.

Yes, provided you buy a controller that uses the same controller chip however. i.e. Promise or Highpoint

If your M/B uses the silicon image 3112a, you had better use a silicon based card. Otherwise, the Highpoint/Promise controller might not recognize your RAID.

I have no idea. Highpoint / Promise controllers have been around in various forms for donkeys years, Silicon Image make relatively new SATA controllers. Naturally if his array was made with a Silicon Image chip he should buy a card with the same Silicon Image chip on it.
