My Latitude D600 stopped working recently - will not turn on w/ or w/out battery. When the Dell AC adapter is plugged in, the green light on it immediatly goes out. (My AC adapter works fine on another D600). I am guessig that I must replace it.

The part number shown under one of the memory modules says 5u857. I searched for that and found that that is the system main board for a Latitude D600. I also found the following numbers for the D600: Y4801, U0996, W8212, H5935, P8300, 4U621. Are these interchangeable? Or do I really have to get a 5U857?

Secondly, One of the Dell Forums here suggested that it could be a bad DC jack. I removed the mainboard - the jack looks fine - nothing loose, no cracked solder joints, no signs of burning are warpinging on the circuit board. How likely is it that its the connector thats bad and not something else?

Thanks!

The output on the AC adapter should be 4.5Amp 19.5VDC and 65 or 90Watt rating. Should the one you have be a 65 Watt. It might be pulling a little too much power somewhere and the 65Watt adapter cant handle it. Not sure if this is the case, but I hope it helps. Otherwise, it is more likely a motherboard issue if other batteries work fine once they are charged.
