I'm looking into a new hard drive, or perhaps two for a RAID 1 setup on a Chaintech VNF3-250 board and Antec P160 case. Do SATA drives come with the necessary cables? What about the mobo or case?

Also, in checking the Chaintech website, I found that the drivers are on a CD. Now, I'm a big ole novice when it comes to building from scratch, but I'm concerned after reading recent posts about needing a driver disk and hitting F6 to get things set up properly. Any advice?

Thanks as always.

Copy the driver files for the controller from CD to floppy. There might even be a floppy creator (aka, floppy disk image extractor) in the driver package if you're lucky.

Noted. I'll make sure to get a floppy drive then! :)

Any input about the cables themselves? Also, has anyone used serial drives in the P160 case? Do the cords fit ok?

I don't actually buy floppy drives, I pull them out of old systems.

After doing some more checking, it appears I'll need to buy cables to connect SATA drives. Am I right? If so, what should I buy, or should I bother in the first place? What about power? This whole SATA thing is quite new to me, but the Chaintech board seems to only support RAID with SATA drives.

If it's the same board it looks like it comes with the cables and power adapters. Under the CDs are SATA cables and to the left of those is the adapters.

Ah. Great. I didn't recognize those.

If all goes well, I should have this thing up and running (on fire perhaps) at the end of next week! Hopefully I won't be running and on fire.
