Some icons missing on physical desktop

Hello, about a week ago, I noticed that whenever I downloaded anything, it would not show up on my desktop, but when I went to my desktop folder, it would be there. Do you know any way to fix this? Also, when I try to delete something, it would delete from the desktop folder , but would still be there in my physical desktop. Any help would be much appreciated.

What browser are you using? Fire fox, Internet Explorer, Opera ETC.

You must unintentionally hide these icons when you use something in the desktop. So you could do the following steps to recover it .
At first , you should click the right button of the mouse on the desktop , and then choose "Arrange Icons By ", at last ,select "Show Desktop Icons".
After these steps, your icons will show again .

Not all the icons are gone though, just the icons that I have downloaded in the past week. The icons before that are still there
