error 1316

trying to remove program from add/remove and got error 1316, a network error
accurred while attempting to read from file. somehow i got windows resource
tool kits,
and i want to uninstall it.
any ideas? thanks

i guess i should have looked around before i posted this, but on my system,
under services, network DDE and DDE DSDM are disabled, do i need them, and
if so, how do i enable them, thanks

You enable them through Start | Run | Services.msc

for the heck of it, i enabled them and still get the error when trying to
uninstall resource kit, is there any other setting somewhere that will let me
delete the kit?

How did you get it in the first place? You wrote, "...somehow i got
windows resource tool kits,..." which doesn't make much sense. Don't
you know how it got installed?

The usuall reason an uninstall doesn't work is something got corrupted
and the usual way to fix this is to reinstall then uninstall.

ok, somehow it was installed, maybe i thought i was getting something else,
but i found the icon for it on my desk top and was able to uninstall from
there. i was trying to find anything related to servers on my system. i get
hit with ms02-039 once every other week. im not running a server. just xp
pro, sp2 for home use. i thought that if i got rid of everything related to
server, i would stop getting that darn 039 thingy, it freezes my system up
for a couple of days. its a real pain, know what i mean? thanks for your
advice, i found the icon looking for a way to reinstall so i could uninstall.
that windows resource kit said it was for server 2003. now to finger out how
to get rid of the few files i found for microsoft office. i dont have
microsoft office, how do i find all the uninstall's for everything?

You're welcome. Normally they are in Add/Remove programs, or look in
the program listing in Start | All programs. Sometimes there is an
uninstall entry in the program folder.

Don't know why you'd be getting that through WU since it's for SQL
server. For one thing turn off automatic updates, but not the automatic
updates service. Then occasionally go to the WU site and do a scan for
updates and use the custom install feature. Hide the ones you don't
want and only download the ones you need. Most new updates come out on
the second tuesday of the month.

i went to add/remove, the resource kit entry was gone, went to programs and
it is still listed there. i hit delete, and it asked if i really wanted to
delete as it would affect all users on the system. it didnt do a complete
uninstall. and i couldnt find any thing for office, but if i do a search for
office i have 4 entrys, one in crogram files, one say its a authentication,
and theres 2 more
