Hello all. I am trying to find a good used external CD-RW, CD-R writer for an older Dell system with USB 1.1 and running Windows 98, 1E. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on either Hewlett-Packard CD Writer 8200 series (8220e) or the Iomega ZipCD 650. There are a lot of them being sold on Ebay, which may or may not be cause for concern. I know these are relics now, but I can live with their slow speeds. Any opinions on these drives would be most appreciated.

I'd probably look for a newer (still used) drive, places like http://www.surpluscomputers.com often carry them for around $20.

I'm the original owner an internal HP 8100, 4x2x20x, same basic drive as the 8200.

It still works but it's not very tolerant of modern CDR discs. Fuji Film discs (the Taiyo Yuden discs, manufactured in Japan) work OK. Works pretty good with 4X CDRW discs but the 8100 writes those at 2X.
