About to pull the trigger on a 4:3 ratio 20" lcd monitor for "prosumer" home use. I generallly want it for photochopping, and photo editing of a serious but non-pro use. I may also start to get into limited video editing (home movies, I just had a kid). Finally, who doesn't like to blast away at some game?

So, figured on either the viewsonic vp2030b or HP lp2065 monitors. Can't find a real, in-depth review of either. They seem very close in performance and price, so maybe neither is a bad choice? Also, the HP is stodgy looking but does have a current $40 rebate. Then again I'm weary of HP's like Dells, since I figure they're only as good as from whichever they're sourcing from at the particular moment. But still, the HP gets high marks and is cheaper by some.

Alternatively, I prefer the viewsonic name, but what's in a name anymore? I think both are 8 bit panels, and neither a TN. Viewsonic offers zero dead pixel guarantee in several other countries, but not usa. Still, I figure they use the same panels around the world, or is the usa getting a different panel. Point is, if its the same panel and they guarantee azro dead pxiels in australia and europe, then should get likely the same quality here (if not same warranty).

So, anyone with any RL experience, please chime in.

No real life experience on that monitor, but I too am interested in that model. It is supposed to be 8-bit. Regarding the Viewsonic brand, actually there is something to the name now. In this thread: http://forumz.tomshardware.com/ce/ [...] 51535.html
I made mention of how it appears that Viewsonic seems to be doing a rather excellent job implementing overdrive and underdrive when they use it in their monitors. On the other hand, you may want to keep an eye on the color quality of the Viewsonic monitors; I don't know how they stand in that area (though I know one model that isn't calibrated very good). You might consider getting a monitor calibrator for your monitor; this should fix some issues.
