Hi everyone, I have been having a problem with my laptop for about a week now. It all started last Wednesday. I was playing one of my favorite games and all of the sudden, the mouse froze. I couldnt do anything but shut it down with the power button. It turned back on just fine, but a few minutes after i log in, it freezes again. So i shut it down again. I turn it back on and this time it gets to the Windows loading screen with the green scrolling bar, but the bar doesnt scroll because it froze right there. Sometimes it would get to the HP screen and then just restart itself but that didnt help because it would keep restarting itself until I shut it down. Now just recently (around this Monday) the computer would start up with all the lights on, but the screen would remain blank. It still does this, and idk what to do to fix it.
Specs:
HP Pavilion dv6000
AMD Turion x2 Processor
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS
I cant get on the computer to find some other specs for it but the memory should be good because I just recovered it to factory settings. And when i could get on it, I ran a virus scan and it showed no viruses.
If anyone knows how I would go about fixing this, please help.
I would run memtest, first. I'm also open to the idea of viruses - they love to hide themselves in backup partitions and system restore files. Unless you restored from a CD, it's possible that a virus or other malware was installed with your recovery.
If you can, use another computer to scan that machine's hard disk. If you have factory CDs, now would be an excellent time to use them.
In addition, have you done any overclocking or adjusted bios settings? Have your temps (cpu/gpu) changed recently? Any recent upgrades? Do you have the dv6000 with a vga port? Could you try hooking up to a separate monitor?
